The loop is just one part — the most controversial one — of a project that will span five miles of the Mission-Foothill corridor, also known as Route 238. If built, the mini-loop would begin at the Five Flags intersection. Foothill Boulevard would become a six-lane road, heading north toward five-lane A Street. The loop would proceed onto Mission Boulevard southbound and back to the Five Flags again.
Property that could be partially or fully taken by the city and demolished:
D Street: Three houses (built from 1910 through 1920s) and La Victoria's Restaurant (site established in 1890, rebuilt in the 1920s)
Mission Boulevard: The former Zorn's Restaurant building, Golden Gate Floor Coverings, AJ's Nightclub, Bridal and Beyond Store, Tandoor Indian Restaurant, Village Church of Hayward, Parthenon Real Estate, Fantastic Cleaners, parking lot/patio of Le Paradis Restaurant, parking spaces at The Ranch Restaurant.
Foothill Boulevard: Crossroads Plaza (between C and D Street)
Estimated cost of project: $111 million
Where the money comes from:
$80 million from the Alameda County Transportation Authority (leftover from Foothill Freeway project, which was canceled in 2005)$11.5 million from the city of Hayward
$20 million still not available
