SNOW TURNED THE PURISMA CREEK REDWOODS OPEN SPACE PRESERVE into a winter wonderland in March as both kids and adults had a chance to play in the snow on Hwy 35 in Woodside. JOHN GREEN — Staff This rural home to many lavish estates and 2,000 horses is criss-crossed with bridle paths throughout its unique, park-like setting.

Woodside's first lumber mill was constructed in 1839 and by the time California became a state in 1850, the town was a main supplier of lumber to San Francisco.

In 1853, Dr. Robert O. Tripp, a local dentist, grocer and baker, coined the name Woodside for the 127 acres of woods surrounding his store. He never thought it would become the town name.
