Situated in the heart of the San Mateo County Coast, Half Moon Bay is a unique blend of small-town charm and natural beaches. Visitors flock to town on weekends to visit the specatular shoreline for surfing, bathing and hiking, as well as fresh seafood, while residents continue to enjoy a largely rural community. More than 30,000 visitors attend the annual Half Moon Bay Art & Pumpkin Festival each October, preceded by the world-famous Pumpkin Weigh-Off. The city continues to be a major agricultural hub for the county, producing much of its fava beans, artichokes and other crops. The mainstays of agriculture are the vast flower fields and greenhouses that line the coast. Surrounded by unincorporated townships, Half Moon Bay is also enriched by its mainly Portuguese and Mexican farm worker community. | |
